The whole flower is already in the bulb
Native to the Peruvian Andes, it stores the entire coming bloom inside the bulb: stem, buds and petals are already formed in miniature before it is ever planted.
That is why it flowers without rich soil or feed: it merely unrolls what it built the previous season, out of its leaves.
