The palm that grows in clumps
Native to the coastal forests of Madagascar, where it is now rare in the wild, the Areca grows as a clump of golden-yellow canes rather than a single trunk.
It is one of the most forgiving indoor palms: it accepts medium light and dry apartment air, and needs repotting only every three years.
"The Areca grows in clumps: it never learned to stand alone."
Styling Tip 01
Bright indirect light
Place it near a sheer-curtained window: direct sun yellows its leaflets, deep shade draws them thin.
Styling Tip 02
Weekly watering
Water when the surface is dry, then always empty the saucer: standing water is its leading cause of death.
Styling Tip 03
Humidity and brown tips
Brown tips signal air that is too dry or water too hard: mist the foliage and water with soft water.
