Caring for your plants, day after day
Simple habits to keep your plants healthy. Light, watering, soil — the essentials to help them thrive.
The first 48 hours are decisive
After purchase, let your plant acclimate. Avoid repotting or fertilizing right away: give it time to adjust to its new environment.
Six essential habits
Light
Place the plant in a bright spot with indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering
Water only when the topsoil is dry. Overwatering is the most common cause of decline.
Fertilizing
Don't fertilize before the acclimation period. Once settled, feed sparingly in spring.
Soil & pot
Ensure good drainage and airy soil. Choose a pot suited to the size of the roots.
Temperature
Keep a stable temperature and keep the plant away from drafts and direct heat sources.
Pruning
Remove yellowed or damaged leaves to encourage healthy growth and preserve the plant's appearance.
Choosing the right fertilizer
The right fertilizer depends on the type of plant and its growth stage.
Vegetative growth
High in nitrogen (N) — leaves and stems
10-10-30Ideal for foliage plants and herbs
Flowering & blooms
High in phosphorus and potassium
10-30-20For roses, bougainvillea and others
General strengthening
Balanced NPK, all-purpose
20-20-20Provides complete, balanced nutrition
In summer / high heat
Reduce frequency (every 2 to 4 weeks), preferably after watering or in the evening
Avoid excess nitrogen so it doesn't burn the plant
"A plant doesn't ask for much — just attention at the right moment."
